As a professional reading project, everyone will read ‘Start with Why,’ by Simon Sinek.
The review paper will be in the form of a synopsis addressing the following: The author’s main points or
theories; why the author feels understanding this concept is so significant; and how you can apply these
ideas as a future leader. Support your ideas with relevant examples.
Your paper grade is based on the following criteria:
Summation (30%): Summation/correctness of the content of the book, the main points, the author’s
intent, conclusion(s) etc. What did the author talk about
Analysis (30%): Your critical analysis of the author’s main points and conclusion(s). Do you agree with
him? Why or why not? Is his book still relevant to today’s military? Why or why not?
Lessons Learned/Application (30%): What lessons learned can you derive from this professional
reading? How can you apply these lessons now or as a future military leader? How can you use this
professional reading to help future Soldiers you may lead?
Grammar (10%): Spelling, content, structure etc.
You can review the book either as a free audio book from DoD MWR Libraries, your university library, or
purchase the book using Book Stipend money.
Log into Army e-Learning (see site below). If you have not registered, please register at this time. Upon
being granted access, sign into the Library site. This will bring you to search page, you may ‘Browse the
Library’ for the book title or author. Select the book and download MP3s, if your selection is present.
